Frightful: A Silent Halloween

Frightful: A Silent Halloween

Presented by Indiana Landmarks at Indiana Landmarks Center

Looking for Halloween entertainment? Check out Frightful: A Silent Halloween on Friday, October 30, at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 Central Avenue in Indianapolis.

The 1925 classic The Phantom of the Opera, considered one of the best horror films of the silent era, will be screened in the Grand Hall, with Mark Herman providing spooky live organ accompaniment for the feature and a comedy short. Herman, winner of the American Theatre Organ Society’s Young Organist Competition, has performed in venues throughout the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. Preceding the film screening, he will perform a short concert of classic scary music on the organ.

The Phantom of the Opera stars Lon Chaney as a mad, disfigured composer living in the catacombs of the Paris Opera who falls in love with a young opera singer.

For laughs, there’s a silent 1921 comedy short, The Haunted House, starring Buster Keaton.

Door prizes will be given out throughout the evening. Snacks and a cash bar will be available. Dress in Phantom or opera singer attire to compete for a cash prize during our costume contest before the main feature.

A Silent Halloween features special lighting effects and haunting organ accompaniment, making the Grand Hall of Indiana Landmarks Center an eerie Halloween destination.

Doors and cash bar open at 6:45 p.m., film screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. and the event ends at 10 p.m.
