StreamLines: Launch

StreamLines: Launch

Presented by Center for Urban Ecology at Butler University at Holcomb Gardens

StreamLines is an interactive project that merges the sciences and the arts to advance the community’s understanding and appreciation of Indianapolis’ waterways. This work is made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation.

StreamLines features a collection of installations along six Indianapolis’ waterways and adjacent greenspaces inviting the community to learn, explore and experience the science of local water systems through visual art, poetry, dance and music. The project also incorporates a website and smart phone application to increase access, interpretation and opportunities for learning.

StreamLines: Launch will celebrate the “grand opening” of these works of art, the launch of the companion website + app and continue related programming designed to inspire Indianapolis’ communities to explore and learn about the science of their waterways.

From 5:00 to 5:30 p.m., enjoy light refreshments and drinks and exploration of musical works by Stuart Hyatt and environmental visual art by Mary Miss/City as Living Laboratory.

Program will begin at 5:30 p.m. sharp including a dance performance by Butler University School of Dance and choreographed by Professor of Dance Cynthia Pratt. The dance will showcase musical works written and recorded for StreamLines. The audience will also enjoy a poetry reading created for StreamLines and hear brief remarks from project partners Mary Miss, John Fraser of New Knowledge Organization and Mark Kesling of The daVinci Pursuit

People with an interest in the arts, science, Indianapolis’ waterways and urban communities are encouraged to attend. For more information, please visit StreamLines.org.
