A Symposium for Educators: Truth Be Told: Alternative Narratives for Teaching about Columbus Day and Thanksgiving

9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Cost: $10

Participants will learn about Native American perspectives on Columbus Day and Thanksgiving, and take away new tools to give their students a more historically accurate view of these two myth-laden holidays. The symposium will be moderated by Larry Zimmerman, Ph.D., Eiteljorg/IUPUI Public Scholar of Native American Representation, and feature presenters including keynote speaker, noted author and historian James W. Loewen, Ph.D. (Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your High School History Textbook Got Wrong; and Lies My Teacher Told Me About Christopher Columbus). Pre-register by calling 317.275.1310. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a sack lunch, writing materials and a light sweater or jacket. Educators will receive certification of 6 Professional Growth Plan points (PGPs).
