Stutz Residents will debut their works at the Raymond James Stutz Art Gallery (including a 400 pound limestone sculpture)

Between September 4 and 30, the Stutz Artist Association will present to the Indy art scene two of its latest emerging and creative artists – the 2014-15 Stutz Residents who have enhanced their creativity through the Stutz Artist Residency program over the past year. 

Artists Cheryl Lorance and Marna Shopoff, will unveil their latest works during the opening reception for the gallery exhibition, “Between the Dot and the Dash” (the 2015 Stutz Artist Residency Exhibition) on September 4, 5-9 pm.

Lorance is a limestone sculptor and painter; Shopoff is a contemporary fine artist. After nearly a year as Stutz Residents, both artists say their work has evolved and expanded. Each has been recognized for their work, featured in local and national galleries, and invited to share their skills through workshops and classes. The public will have the opportunity to see the results of their growth during the month of September, when the artists’ are featured in an exhibition. The exhibition will debut their unique and distinct talents. The reception is a part of IDADA First Friday. 

About Cheryl Lorance:  Lorance received her undergraduate Fine Arts degree from Ball State University, majoring in painting and sculpture. Awarded a graduate assistantship from the university, she then completed her Master of Arts in sculpture, with an emphasis on bronze casting. She moved to Santa Fe to continue her artistic pursuits, where she evolved into an accomplished goldsmith and jewelry designer. Lorance is perhaps best known for her sculpture and bronze work. She has exhibited in numerous art shows, has been represented in multiple galleries and received several awards.

About Marna Shopoff: Shopoff received both her Bachelors and Masters in Fine Arts from Herron School of Art and Design, where she currently is employed as an adjunct professor in the Foundations department. Using paint as her medium, Shopoff captures experiential, personal and compositional relationships, while blending representation with abstraction, intuition with intimacy and using architecture as a visual passageway of self-reflection. She is an active member of local and national arts programs including: IDADA, Arts Council of Indianapolis, College Arts Association and FATE. Her work has been published locally, nationally, and internationally.

About the Stutz Residency Program: Valued at $6,000 per artist, the residency is one of the largest grants to an individual artist in the state. Through a competitive process, two artists are chosen and awarded free studio space and paid utilities in the Stutz Building for one year. Since its inaugural year in 1996, the residency program has provided in-kind contributions and scholarships of more than $135,000 to 27 local artists, funded by the Raymond James Stutz Artists Open House, held annually in April.
