Shining Light Film Festival and Christian Theological Seminary (CTS) are presenting a screening of the documentary film Voices on Friday, October 2, 2015. This award-winning documentary features 3 personal journeys connected by mental illness and humanity. The stories of Sharon, Thomas and Aaron illuminate the challenges, realities, and often complex emotions and choices that surround people with mental illness and those who love them.
After the screening, the audience will have an opportunity to discuss the film with the Director, Gary Tsai via Skype. Dr. Tsai is the film’s co-director and producer. He is also Medical Director, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control, County of Los Angeles, Department of Public Health. His life was changed after a family member was diagnosed with schizophrenia. As a filmmaker, he is interested in shining a light on marginalized and underserved groups.
In addition to Dr. Tsai, the audience will be able to dialogue with a panel of Indiana leaders and consumers of mental health services. Lee Stephan, retired Director of SMI Services, Community Health Network, will moderate the discussions. The panelists are:
Lance Dardeen – Patrol Officer, Training Unit, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department; CIT officer
Leah Keel – visual artist; mental health consumer and advocate; ArtMix painter and ceramicist
Sarah Lund – UCC/DOC minister; author of “Blessed are the Crazy”; VP for Advancement for CTS
