Indianapolis, INDIANA– Backpack Art features the landscape paintings of Abby Laux and will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery in Marian Hall from October 8, 2015 to May 1, 2016.  An opening reception of the exhibit will be held October 8th from 4:00-6:00 p.m. The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Laux recently traveled to Acadia, Glacier, and Yosemite National Parks as well as Ireland, England, France, and Switzerland to hike, sketch, and contemplate the land. She interpreted the light and mood of these landscapes to create the paintings in Backpack Art. Laux describes, “Sketching or painting on location allows me to better study the vibrant colors and graceful lines of the land and gives me a feeling of connectedness to that place. Creating a response to the awe of nature is what drives me to paint? what encourages me share these paintings is the hope that the fascination will resonate with another soul through my simple studies.”

Laux teaches art at Springs Valley High School in French Lick, Indiana and was a recipient of the Eli Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellowship Program.  She holds a BS Visual Arts Education from IU Bloomington and an MA in Art from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA.  Bloomington Hospital of Orange County, St. Peter Celestine Catholic Center, and private residents of Indiana and Alabama retain her work in their collections.
