Day of the Dead

at Nickel Plate Arts

Get cultured on the spookiest day of the year! Come to Nickel Plate Arts this Halloween to celebrate Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos), a festive Mexican holiday with ancient roots that honors and celebrates the memory of friends and family members who have passed away. Day of the Dead has activities for all ages! — All day long, explore Mexican art and culture by learning about the holiday’s traditions, including the creation of altars, laying out offerings, and sharing food, music and stories with loved ones. Our celebration will put an artsy spin on these popular traditions. View handmade altars created by local artists on display in the Judge Stone House gallery. Vote for your favorite altar and even create your own. Artists interested in building an altar should contact Paige at phunkin@nickelplatearts.org.

Join in the revelry Oct. 31, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., on the Nickel Plate Arts campus. The $10 admission includes a hot drink, snacks, crafts, face painting, costume contest, entertainment and activities including storytelling, live music and piñata smashing. Teens and adults: stick around afterwards for a nighttime walking graveyard tour, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the graveyard tour, and spots are limited, so you must register in advance on our website.
