Spirit & Place 2015: 1971 - Paranoia, Surveillance & the American Dream

Presented by The Indianapolis Public Library at Central Library

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the community-wide Spirit & Place Festival and the DREAM theme, view a screening of the documentary film, “1971,” that tells the story of the protesters and journalists who not only questioned why the American Dream was out of reach for many but who also exposed a secret FBI surveillance program that targeted Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, Angela Davis and others. Following the screening, join in a discussion with filmmaker Johanna Hamilton along with Bonnie and John Raines, two of the individuals who broke into the FBI offices in 1971 to bring the truth to light. This program will be held in Central Library’s Clowes Auditorium.
