Driven to Change: Historian highlights cars’ impact on 20th Century
One of Indiana’s most noted historians and authors, Jim Madison will give a lively lecture about the impact of the automobile in Indiana history on Nov. 19 at Indiana Landmarks Center.
Madison will look at the last century and discuss how the automobile affected our economic, social and political changes. Was the car really, as an Indiana judge thundered in the 1920s, “nothing but a house of prostitution on wheels”?
Madison, emeritus professor at Indiana University, is the author of Hoosiers: A New History of Indiana, published last year to great acclaim. A brief meeting of Indiana Landmarks’ Indiana Automotive affinity group precedes the talk, with book sales and author signing following the lecture.
