An Uneasy Relationship: John Bartlow Martin and Indiana

Presented by The Indianapolis Public Library at Central Library

Join local author Ray Boomhower as he discusses John Barlow Martin, one of the nation’s top freelance writers who worked as a speechwriter for every Democratic presidential campaign from Adlai Stevenson to George McGovern. The author also will explore Martin’s Indianapolis roots and his time working for the Indianapolis Times. Boomhower also will address Martin’s examination of the “myth” of Indiana in Martin’s book, “Indiana: An Interpretation,” and how the book was utilized by Robert F. Kennedy’s campaign during Indiana’s presidential primary. This program will be held in Central Library’s Nina Mason Pulliam Indianapolis Special Collections Room.
