Indiana Author’s Books brought to Stage by Local Playwriters
“A Passion for Harmony” at Oaklandon Civic Theatre
by James Trofatter
Based on the Books by Indiana Author Philip Gulley Easter comes to Harmony and the somewhat eccentric residents are preparing for the festivities amid the dramas that always seem to encircle their lives. Fern Hampton’s Friendly Women’s Circle wants to celebrate by offering the Meetinghouse something of magnificance. And, boy, do they deliver! Deena Morrison struggles with her love for Wayne Fleming whose wife, Sally, abandoned her husband and children over a year ago,
but who has recently returned to be with her family.
Jessie Peacock and Pastor Sam Gardner wrestle with their heart-felt beliefs when gifts of hope come from places most unlikely and
despised; Harvey Murdoch promotes his lottery ticket give away despite disdain from certain members; and Dale Hinshaw intends
to bring new life to the meetinghouse but, as usual, overlooks a few important details.
Philip Gulley’s heart-warming and hilarious Harmony stories have been skillfully adapted for stage by local playwright James Trofatter,
with colorful and memorable characters. Please join us as we celebrate chickens, balloons and quilts in “A Passion for Harmony”.
Save room for dessert at Bonnie’s Cafe during intermission.
