Auditions - New Summer Stock Theatre Program

Presented by Herron High School at Herron High School

Claude McNeal Productions, a local non-profit theatre organization, in collaboration with the IUPUI Music Academy and Hoosier Bard Productions will be having auditions for a new summer stock theatre program at Herron High School, called the INDIANA PERFORMING ARTS INITIATIVE. Actors/Singers/Dancers are invited to audition for both JEKYLL & HYDE: THE BROADWAY MUSICAL and the straight play SIX CHARACTERS IN SEARCH OF AN AUTHOR.  Rehearsals begin May 16th, with performances beginning June 17th, and running in rep through July 30th.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 8th:  4:30 – 6pm all area high school students, and 6 – 8pm all area college students, and adults

Wednesday, March 9th: 4:30 – 6:30pm (anyone who couldn’t make Tuesday night)

Thursday, March 10th:  5 to 8pm  CALLBACKS

WHERE:

Herron High School, 110 E. 16th Street (corner of 16th & Pennsylvania), Russell Hall, 2nd Floor Theatre

For those intrerested in auditioning for both Jekyll & Hyde & 6 Characters:

Prepare one song, upbeat or ballad, any style (i.e. Broadway, jazz, pop, rock) Please bring sheet music (pianist provided) or instrumental cd, or you can sing acapella. You must also prepare a one-minute monologue from any play. (You need to have a monologue if you are also just auditioning for Jekyll & Hyde).

For those interseted in 6 Characters in Search of an Author only: please prepare a one-minute monologue from any play.

Dancers interested for Jekyll & Hyde: prepare a two minute routine to any style (jazz, modern, tap, etc.)

It would be most helpful if you could also bring a photo & resume’, but not necessary.

Character Breakdowns

Jekyll & Hyde

Cast size varies, but there are 8 principle roles, plus ensemble

Age ranges vary: high school to adult age 60. (Many of the supporting parts can also be played by mature teen or college actors.)

Roles:

Garbriel John Utterson: serves as Jekyll’s lawyer and helpful friend. Male, Age 18 to 45

Sir Danvers Crew: Emma’s loving father and Chairman of the Board of Governors. A charming and gentle man. Soon to be father-in law to Jekyll. Male, Age 20 to 60

Henry Jekyll/Edward Hyde: Jekyll is a doctor obsessed with discovering the true nature behind the good and evil in man. Emma’s financee. After he uses an experimental formula on himself, his evil side -Edward Hyde -takes control.  As Hyde, his is violent, commanding and a sexual deviant attracted to Lucy.  Male, age 20 to 45

Simon Stride: The secretary of the Board of Governors and Jekyll’s rival for Emma’s affections. Male, Age 18 to 40

Bishop of Basingstoke: A hypocritical, sadistic man of the cloth and a member of the Board of Governors. Male, age 20 to 60

General Lord Glossop: A pompous retired army man and member of the Board of Governors. Male, Age 40 to 60

Emma Carew: The daughter of Chairman Danvers and Jekyll’s beloved fiancee who is refined and desired by all of the socialite men. Female. Age 18 to 25

Lucy Harris: The ‘main attraction’ at a local gentleman’s club. At the bottom of her luck, she becomes the object of Hyde’s obsession. Lucy is feisty and wild, but also cautious and aware. Female. Age 18 to 30

Other Aristocrats:  Lady Beconsfeld, Lord Savage, Sir Archibald Proops

Ensemble: Aristoctrats, citizens, servants, party guests, dancers in club, prostitutes, policemen
