This course explores the literary techniques used in writing creative nonfiction — narrative, description, dialogue, structure, and reflection — by examining various nonfiction works and then applying what you’ve learned through weekly writing exercises. We also delve into the various forms creative nonfiction can take, including different types of essays, memoir, and hybrid forms that combine visual art with prose. (Nonfiction is of course factually accurate and about real people and real events, but it can also be innovative, even fun!) As we progress through this six-week course, we will move deep into the process of writing and sharing short and substantive works of nonfiction in a community of women writers.
