Angela Brown to Perform with the Carmel Symphony O...

Presented by Carmel Symphony Orchestra at Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts

Soprano Angela Brown returns to perform with the Carmel Symphony Orchestra as the featured artist on Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Palladium at the Center for the Performing Arts. The internationally recognized soprano who calls Indianapolis “home” and has been featured in the Metropolitan Opera, Opera Philadelphia and at Lincoln Center will perform familiar arias, spirituals and a little Gershwin.

Most recently Brown was nominated in the classical category for her part in the Langston Hughes-related project “Ask Your Mama,” also featuring (Jimmy Fallon’s house band) The Roots.

According to CSO Artistic Director David Bowden, “When I work with her, it’s like two old friends getting together. I’m not so interested in having ‘my’ approach be what we do. Rather, I’m interested in collaborating with her,” he said. “I love working with singers and enjoy the process that will manifest into the concert.”

Bowden and Brown have put together a program that shines the spotlight on her multifaceted talents. “She is a person of strong faith,” said Bowden. “At her core, it is as important as her music making, so we are doing spirituals as well as the more contemporary “My Tribute.”

The performance begins with the orchestra performing Wagner’s prelude to The Mastersingers of Nuremburg followed by selections from Verdi including the Triumphal March from Aïda. Brown will be performing “Pace, Pace Mio Dio” from The Force of Destiny by Verdi as well as Puccini’s “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca and “Un bel di vedremo” from Madame Butterfly as well as Gershwin’s “The Man I Love.”

Ticket-holders are invited to the free pre-concert presentation, Music Matters, at 6:45 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes conversation about the music of the evening.

Single tickets can be purchased by visiting or by calling the Center’s Box Office at 317.843.3800. Discounts for students are also available including the $5 YouthPASS for High School and younger and the $10 CollegePASS for College students.  For more information, visit
