NEW ARTIST: MICHELLE ROBISON

NEW ARTIST: MICHELLE ROBISON

Presented by Gallery Forty-Two at Gallery Forty-Two

Gallery Forty-Two is excited to announce the addition of figurative sculptor Michelle Robison, whose classically-inspired artwork invokes the spirit of the Renaissance Period. Robison sculpts in various mediums, though her most recent works are created in paper mache. These one-of-a-kind paper sculptures are treated, mounted and placed in decorative frames for wall display.

Robison’s artwork is influenced by a fascination with flight and love of antiques. Her sculpture is an expression of her innermost feelings and desires. “I’m compelled to create what’s inside of me,” said Robison of her artwork. “I want to bring my emotions and experiences to the surface and render them in human form.” Robison’s latest life experience includes her journey with cancer and is reflected in her newest pieces. Sculpting has become an outlet for Robison and provides a way for her to manage life’s challenges, while remaining inspired to endure.

The artist’s process involves using a spatula to apply mache clay to the framework of her sculpture.  Each artwork is built up in progressive layers and eventually sculpted before being allowed to dry completely. The finished pieces are sealed with a primer and then painted with a heavily infused copper coating, called Electrodag. Acid is then applied, which has a chemical reaction to the metal in the paint, and achieves the desired patina finish.
