DIVAFest: Zora’s Tales

DIVAFest: Zora’s Tales

at IndyFringe Basile Theater

Playwright: Debra Asante

Director: Ennis Adams

As a woman and artist who is consistently inspired by culture and history, the Novelist, Storyteller, Cultural Anthropologist and Adventuress, Zora Neale Hurston has always intrigued me. Her book “Their Eyes Were Watching God” was the first book to speak to me about my woman self in an intimate way that connected me with my southern roots. It made me look past her art. I wanted to know who this woman was. What I found was tantalizing and I wanted to spread the word. My piece in DivaFest is tribute to her.

Deborah Asante: One of the city’s most lauded storytellers and extraordinary creative talents.  She is the Founder and Artistic Director of the Asante Children’s Theatre – a cultural arts youth development organization that just celebrated its 25th anniversary
