IN THE SHADOWS OF AUSCHWITZ Photographs by Charles Moman

Presented by Bureau of Jewish Education at Bureau of Jewish Education

The Holocaust Education Center of Indiana announces the exhibit, In the Shadows of Auschwitz, photographs by Charles Moman. His beautiful, yet haunting photographs will allow visitors to get insight into what it means for us today to remember the lives lost during the years of terror that resulted in Holocaust.

Charles Moman, a retired music teacher, became curious about the Holocaust while recovering from a near-fatal car accident. After his doctor told him he would only heal without screws and metal plates if he rested, Moman began binge watching Holocaust documentaries, including one featuring survivor Eva Kor of Terre Haute, IN, founder of the Candles Holocaust Museum. These experiences so affected him, he traveled to Poland twice in 2015 to visit Holocaust sites and use his camera to help tell the stories of those whose lives were lost.

During the two weeks of the exhibit, groups of 10 or more will be able to set up appointments to have a private viewing of the photographs and to meet with the photographer and first and second generation Holocaust survivors and visit the Holocaust Memorial on the grounds of the Jewish Community Campus. Visitors are welcome during any of the open hours of the exhibit listed below.

The opening reception will take place on May 1, 2016 and will include a gallery talk by the photographer.
