Six Characters In Search of An Author

Six Characters In Search of An Author

at Herron High School

An absurdist play by Italian playwright Luigi Pirandello, this unique drama creates powerful visions of a fragmented modern world. It deals with the bewildering issues of human identity, the search for meaning where there is none and the confusion between art (the imaginary) and life (the reality).

As an acting company begins their rehearsal of a play, they are unexpectedly interrupted by the arrival of six strange people -six unfinished, unrealized characters who have not fully been brought to life, in search of an author to finish their story. Their only chance to live is to find some author who is willing to put them in a play.

Witness the trials and tribulations of a family lost in time forced to relive the most horrible moments of their lives until they can find a way to complete their story. Helping to lay the foundation for Theatre of the Absurd, Six Characters … is a parody of the “well-made play”, where all theatrical conventions and functions of personnel are examined in the play-within-the-play.
