This small body of work, which employs a variety of media including embroidery and watercolor, is largely inspired by the artist’s grandparents’ home, her love of that dear place and the years of memories housed within. In an effort to make the ethereal tangible, Lord has reimagined beloved items from their home that have quietly served as the backdrop to innumerable memories.
Her hope is that the work, despite being very personal, will evoke the viewer’s sense of affinity for their own special, personal places. These works attempt to embody the immense feelings of kinship, love and nostalgia created by home and family that, all too often, can be hard to express.
