On June 3, painter Thane Young presents “Still Life Series,” a free show in Indiana Landmarks Center’s Rapp Family Gallery.
Two prominent strains define Young’s work. He persistently wavers back and forth from classical realism, because of his respect of the Old Masters, to cubist abstraction, because of his admiration of the boundless imagination of the great Modernist painters. These two modes of working come together in his still life paintings, featuring fragmented and abstracted forms rendered with the bold colors, chiaroscuro, soft modeling, and delicate glazing of classical realism.
