MUSICIANS TRIBUTE to DR. DAVID N. BAKER

Presented by Harambee Collaborative Group at Crispus Attucks HS, Auditorium,

Dr. David N. Baker was internationally renowned as a performer, conductor, teacher, author, and
composer of numerous jazz and classical compositions. He was a member of the faculty of the
Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, Indiana for 50 years, and was a
National Endowment for the Arts American Jazz Master and a Kennedy Center Living Jazz
Legend.
As an Indiana native he started his musical journey near the intersection of 23rd and Columbia
Street, on the eastside of Indianapolis. He attended local IPS Schools #56, #26, Crispus Attacks
and Indiana University. He traveled on to rise to the top of the jazz world as the music director to
the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, (for more than twenty years). Come out and hear
his music and stories about him.
David Hardiman (trumpeter ) and Dr. David Baker were neighbors. Both are graduates of Butler
University. Hardiman now lives in the San Francisco, California Bay Area, where he retired as
Professor Emeritus, Jazz Studies, from City College of San Francisco. Follow his link for more
