Art Shack: A Pop-Up Art Celebration

at ART SHACK

The Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art and Englewood Community Development will host an exciting celebration Saturday, June 18th from 12:00pm to 9:00pm called Art Shack. The Art Shack celebration will feature installations by 10 local artists in a vacant liquor store on the Near Eastside, at 3002 E Washington St.
The installations include works by the artists Jamie Pawlus, Gautam Rao, Brent Aldrich, Judie Sloan, Carla Knopp, Copy Culture, Teayarnna Williams, Jennifer Delgadillo, Daniel Del Real, John Clark, Erin K. Drew, Kaylyn Fox, and Greg Boll.
Numerous games, food vendors, and other activities will complement the intriguing installations. Cat Head Press, a print shop and artist cooperative will have their grand opening from 4:00pm to 9:00pm, with a presentation at 5:00pm. Local vendors Pia Urban Market Café and Market, Tlaolli, and Ash & Elm Cider Co. will be selling food and beverages throughout the day.
As part of the Englewood Summer Concert Series, Dream Chief and other Near Eastside musicians and bands will perform from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. This concert will cap off what promises to be a day full of engaging, diverse, and local art and activities.
The pieces featured in the art Shack include site-specific installations and films. A tap-dancing clinic and a lantern making workshop will be adjacent to the site. Visitors will have the chance to engage with art in a unique setting while experiencing a diverse and creative community. This event aims to invigorate the Near Eastside of Indianapolis and establish its status as a center for art.
The Art Shack is produced with the support of the Great Place 2020 Indianapolis LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation). Great Places 2020 is an innovative community development initiative with the purpose of transforming strategic Marion County neighborhoods into dynamic centers of culture.
Parking on the day of the event will be available at PR Mallory, on south side of Washington Street. Be sure to check out the Art Shack Facebook event to find out more, let us know that you are coming, and invite your friends!
