Carmina Burana and Chichester Psalms

Carmina Burana and Chichester Psalms

Presented by Indianapolis Symphonic Choir at Hilbert Circle Theatre

Debuted in 1937 – the same year that introduced the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir to the Circle City – Orff’s Carmina Burana has become an audience favorite with its dramatic, percussive writing and sensuous melodies and harmonies. Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms is rife with musical complexity and metaphor, including repeated intervals of the 7th and 7/4 meter. In Orff’s own words, “Everything I have written to date, and which you have, unfortunately, printed, can be destroyed. With Carmina Burana, my collected works begin.”
