UNLOADED

UNLOADED

at iMOCA at The Murphy

The touring exhibition, “Unloaded” is curated by Suzanne Slavick, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University. It explores a singular theme–guns.  UNLOADED features 19 international and national artists who present the topic through a variety of media, including printmaking, painting, sculpture, video and film. The artists’ points of view touch on personal connections to guns and gun violence as well as broader critiques and studies of gun culture. Notable artists include Nina Berman, Mel Chin, Adrian Piper and Stephanie Syjuco.

“We are very excited to be hosting UNLOADED. This exhibition offers a variety of perspectives on one of society’s most important and divisive topics,” says Paula Katz, executive director of iMOCA. “Rather than asking viewers to take a stance, we hope the show will be an experience that creates thought provoking dialogue.”

The extensive exhibition will be installed at both of iMOCA’s galleries located in the Murphy Arts Center in Fountain Square and the Alexander Hotel at CityWay.

In addition to the exhibition, iMOCA has commissioned a new installation by artist Tom Hubbard. It will be installed at the Murphy Arts Center. Tom Hubbard’s work blurs the lines between the disciplines of photography, ceramics and graphic design. He creates multifaceted works that often bridge the past and the present, the personal and the historical. Hubbard’s work has been exhibited widely in both the U.S. and the Netherlands in galleries and museums and is included several private and corporate collections. He was born in San Francisco, CA and received a BFA from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Hubbard currently lives Georgia.
