EXHIBITION: Monika Sosnowska

Presented by Newfields at Indianapolis Museum of Art

Polish sculptor Monika Sosnowska bends, collapses and twists metal, questioning the finality of the architectural structures that surround us. Sosnowska transforms steel into abstract objects, whether monumental or small, which often retain vestiges of everyday recognizable forms such as a ladders, suitcases or gates. The IMA exhibition will feature three works on display in the interior and exterior spaces of the Efroymson Family Entrance Pavilion. Hanging from the ceiling of the Pavilion, the twisting and commanding Market (2013) is inspired by the kinds of metal stalls that line the outdoor markets of Sosnowska’s hometown of Warsaw, Poland. Made possible by the Efroymson Contemporary Art Fund, an endowed fund at the IMA.
