Growing Up Baroque

Growing Up Baroque

at Indiana Landmarks Center

A core element of IndyBaroque Music’s mission is educational outreach, and this concert of the Indianapolis Baroque Orchestra focuses on the 18th century music that so many young musicians encounter, particularly through the Suzuki method books. Many of the orchestra’s members are teachers themselves, and remember the excitement of their first lessons in Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel were to them as kids. “Growing Up Baroque” presents a selection of the full Baroque works from which these early study pieces were excerpted, including Bach’s Double Violin Concerto in D minor, BWV 1043, with IBO’s concertmaster Allison Nyquist and principal second violinist Martha Perry as soloists. Piano students will recognize their assignments from the Notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach as performed on the harpsichord by Thomas Gerber. Students of all ages are invited to bring their instruments to the concert to participate in a surprise finale!
