Plant Your Own Backyard Garden with Confidence
Founded in 2007, the Felege Hiywot Center is a community gardening education center in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood of Indianapolis. They work with area youth to develop gardening skills and environmental responsibility. Felege Hiywot Center staff will give participants a tour of the farm and offer tips on getting started on your own garden at home. What are the easiest fruits and vegetables to grow at home? What are some common misconceptions about planting a backyard garden? When is the best time to plant your garden? What should be planted with seeds? What are better with starter plants? They can answer these and many other questions for new or veteran gardeners.

Can Your Harvest and Eat Local All Year Long
Suzanne Krowiak is a Master Food Preserver and founder of Indy Food Swappers. She will demonstrate the most common form of canning – the boiling water bath. Learn about the equipment, safety guidelines and best ways to store your local harvest. Participants will leave ready to tackle their own preservation projects at home.
