Sarah Hobbs images are about the psychological space created by the compulsions and neurotic tendencies of human behavior. Her photographs of carefully constructed tableaus portray human behaviors such as perfectionism and social phobias.
Sarah Hobbs will be in Indianapolis to discuss her body or work “Psychological Traces,” currently at the CityWay Gallery curated by iMOCA.
Hobbs lives and works in Atlanta, GA; her work is in collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbus (GA) Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the High Museum of Art (Atlanta) and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago.
Hobbs builds, then photographs, tableaus of domestic environments where common objects, arranged to excess, evidence the irresistible impulses that plague human behaviors. while humorous and haunting, these scenes of domestic life suggest that our most comfortable spaces can be the places of the most uneasiness.
