The concert will highlight the contributions to Indiana music by the Irish and Scottish, especially on the east side of Indianapolis.
This concert is the first of the Irvington Summer Music Series will highlight the contributions to Indiana music by the Irish and Scottish, especially on the east side of Indianapolis. Performers include:
Hogeye Navvy singing sea chanteys, railroading or canal songs, and other songs reflecting how the early ones from Ireland and Scotland came to the U.S. and the work they did to help build this country;
Jim and Kate Smith, Indiana farmers who play very traditional Irish tunes on Irish flute, Uillean pipes, and fiddle;
Irish step dancers Sarah and Michael Conway, from the Richens-Timm Academy of Irish Dance;
Scottish ballad singer Patrick Grant, who immigrated to Indiana from Glasgow to work at the Amtrak Shops for decades while entertaining many thousands of Hoosiers along the way.
