“At the core of the personal essay is the supposition that there is a certain unity to human experience.” -Phillip Lopate
In this workshop, we will study examples of the personal essay and work to understand how we can take our own hectic, mesmerizing, and beautiful experiences of life and create an artful narrative. By looking through different forms of personal essays, you will discover ways to take a life experience – be it everyday situations like peeling an apple or having a headache to more extraordinary experiences like selling a house or dropping a child off for college – and giving it a format for expression.
