Snatched - A Passage to Madness

Snatched - A Passage to Madness

Presented by Asante Children's Theatre of Indianapolis at Unknown

The ACT Academy brings to a close its 27th Season with the main stage debut of “SNATCHED”-A Passage to Madness. Adapted from the original drama, “The Middle Passage” written by Crystal V. Rhodes and Deborah Asante, this production will enlighten and shock as Black teenagers and a White police officer are snatched back in time and find themselves at the center of an ancient struggle. Performed by members of the Asante Children’s Theatre Academy together with seasoned adult actors, the show will be performed ONE WEEKEND ONLY at the Madame Walker Theatre located at 617 Indiana Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. Thursday June 8th through Sunday June 11th.

“SNATCHED”-A Passage to Madness is a controversial story of the transatlantic slave trade and its parallels with today’s society. This production not only explores the journey from Africa to America through the eyes of several misguided youth, but also the long-term impact that greed can have on our world and the price we pay as human beings.

Why this show, why now? It is important for the Academy actors as well as our audiences to see what happens when a society values financial gain over morality. This play proposes a historical viewpoint which factors into what we see taking place today. Adding the policeman to the story is an attempt to introduce an unexpected viewpoint.

Due to the language content, “SNATCHED”- A Passage to Madness is rated PG-13. There will be a facilitated discussion with both the actors and our audience immediately following the Friday and Sunday shows.

Performance dates are: Thursday June 8th, Friday June 9th, and Saturday June 10th at 8:00pm and Sunday June 11th at 4:00pm.

“THURSDAY is COMMUNITY NIGHT” All Seats $5! Admission for the rest of the run is priced to encourage group attendance. Advance tickets for all are $10. Day of Show tickets are $12.
