“What Lies Within,” a mixed media art installation for the lobby of Still Waters Adult Day Eastgate Center

“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Water covers 70% of the earth’s surface and makes up 60% of our bodies.  Water, along with air, is the basis of life.

The artist, Sofiya Inger, envisions a large work of art that uses the theme of water to capture both the soothing as well as the energizing qualities of the Still Waters Center.  “Our goal is to create a beautiful, iconic piece of art that will comfort and inspire all who experience it,” said Sofiya.  She invites a variety of people to participate in art-making classes – including Still Waters’ participants at the Eastgate and Castleton centers, family caregivers, center volunteers, church members, school children, and community neighbors.  These workshops will take place during the summer.

The installation will include fabrics, mirrors, found objects, light, and translucent panels and will cover an area of approximately 150 square feet in the lobby of Still Waters Adult Day Eastgate Center.  Sofiya Inger is an Indianapolis mixed media artist who has extensive experience working with special populations including persons with Dementia and Alzheimer’s  The artist’s rendering of the installation is shown below.

“What Lies Within” is funded in part by a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
