Opera World Premiere: Songs of Clay and Stone

Opera World Premiere: Songs of Clay and Stone

at Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

Mezzo soprano Kathryn Findlen and pianist Robert Brewer will premiere composer Kenneth Frazelle’s work, Songs of Clay and Stone. The piece explores the landscape of the Southwest and the art and architecture of the first Americans. Song lyrics and music will honor Nampeyo, the matriarch of Hopi pottery, the landscape of New Mexico and Chaco Canyon and the forces of weather which sculpted it. Projected images of photographer Edward S. Curtis will accompany the performance.

The program will also include insights by Eiteljorg Museum curators on the works of Nampeyo and Edward Curtis, and highlight Nampeyo pottery on exhibit in the museum’s Native American galleries.

A cash bar will be available. Event fee includes admission to the museum.
