Are you a prose writer who is curious about poetry, but not sure about trying your hand at it? Are you a poet looking to try a new form or to dabble in prose? This class, in which we will attempt to define, study and produce our own examples of the prose poem, may be the perfect opportunity for you to expand your repertoire. Studying the prose poem is often a freeing experience for poets, as they are able to move beyond boundaries, literally and figuratively. If you are a prose writer, poetry’s close inspection of words, syntax and music may add depth to your work. We will spend time in this class studying this shifty form and reading the work of notable and contemporary poets who utilize the prose poem, but we will also write in class using prompts.
