Frightful: Silent Halloween

Frightful: Silent Halloween

Presented by Indiana Landmarks at Indiana Landmarks Center

Come for an evening of spooky fun at Indiana Landmarks Center, when we’ll screen the 1922 silent movie classic, Nosferatu. Award-winning theater organist Mark Herman provides live accompaniment for the film, screened in the Grand Hall.

Frightful Sammy Terry emcees the evening, with stage presentations, lots of audience participation activities, and photo ops.

F. W. Murnau directed the German Expressionist horror film, an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. In the movie, the vampire is Nosferatu and Count Dracula is Count Orlok. Stoker’s heirs sued to halt the distribution of the film and won, with a verdict that required destruction of all copies of the film. A few survived, however, and the film won recognition as an influential masterpiece.

In tribute to the film and the novel, dress as a vampire to compete for cash prize in three categories: best classic vampire, best original, and best couples costume.

Preceding the film screening, Herman performs a short selection of classic scary music on the organ. Special lighting effects join the haunting organ accompaniment to create an eerie pre-Halloween destination.

Doors and cash bar open at 6:45 p.m., film screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. and the event ends at 10:15 p.m.
