Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism

Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism

Presented by Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library at Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library

We’re teaming with DePauw University and GenCon to bring Dr. Safiya Umoja Noblefrom the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School of Communication to discuss her research on racism and censorship in search engines.

Dr. Noble’s work examines a different form of censorship; she addresses the way technology and the Internet shapes our cultural understanding by providing only a limited perspective on the world. Her works include Algorithms of Oppression: How Search Engines Reinforce Racism, The Intersectional Internet: Race, Sex, and Culture Online, and Valley Values: Silicon Valley’s Dangerous Domination of Politics and the Public Imagination (forthcoming.)

Please join us for this important discussion.

This event is free, but seating is limited.
