How can a piece of music be “indescribably profound, magnificent?”

How can a piece of music be “indescribably profound, magnificent?”

Presented by Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis at Pike Performing Arts Center

The Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis’ October concert connects to the power of music and to the composer’s desire to suggest music’s universal values, as we feature Beethoven’s Symphony 5, experiencing this great musician’s work to rending triumph over any kind of adversity.  The Philharmonic has also invited alums of our inner-city tuition-free summer ensemble program, Strings and Jazzy Things, to be a part of this concert and perform an additional work with us.  Having them in the audience and on-stage provides unique experiences for them to hear and experience great music!   We begin this concert with Italian composer Giocchino Rossini’s “Semiramide” Overture, a prelude to that opera, summarizing its musical themes and energies about a unique, brave, female ruler, restorer of the ancient city of Babylon.  Libby Larsen’s Deep Summer Music brings us a languid reflection, and then, all of this music brings the concert the proper energy that prepares us for the final Beethoven monument to music, his Symphony No. 5!
