Vitality Through Art: A Spirt and Place exhibit

Presented by Marian University and Spirit & Place Festival at Marian University Art Gallery

Vitality Through Art is a juried exhibition featuring artwork by community artists and art therapists and is a part of the Spirit and Place Festival.  The artwork highlights the power of art to advocate, illuminate, and heal within the realms of mental and medical health.   The exhibit will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery located Marian Hall from November 6 – December 15, 2017.  An opening reception and panel discussion of the exhibit will be held on Monday, November 6th from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit, reception and panel discussion are presented by Indiana Art Therapy Association and Marian University Art Department.  All are generously funded by the Talbot Street Art Fair and are free and open to the public.

Art plays a vital role in helping people make sense of the unknown. The exhibition will celebrate art’s ability to give meaning to human experiences and create healing energy for life enhancing transformations. Tackling difficult topics such as death and dying, grief and loss, and depression and anxiety, the exhibit will also share glimpses into the experiences of those who have used art to gain control over life when facing chaos and turmoil. The panel discussion will feature artists, art therapists, and others using art in the arenas of mental and medical health will take place on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 4 to 6pm.

The Marian University Art Gallery is located on the west end of the second floor Marian Hall on the Marian University campus. Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.  Please contact Gallery Director Crystal Vicars-Pugh at cvicarspugh@marian.edu for additional information.
