SuperDesign retraces the history and heritage of the Italian Radical Design movement (1965 – 1975) through never-before-seen archival footage, as well as the words and stories of 19 of its key players. Design superstars including Gaetano Pesce, Lapo Binazzi, Ugo La Pietra, Emilio Embasz, and members of Superstudio and Archizoom take viewers back to the time when everything seemed possible.

The mid-1960s was a revolutionary period when a need for change pervaded the Western world. The Radical Design movement emerged during this time in Italy, a nation that became a hotbed of critical thinking and creativity in design, despite the political violence plaguing the country.

The film takes viewers on a tour of the studios, city squares, and alleyways where these architects, designers, and curators molded and enacted their revolutionary ideals.

Presented by the Design Arts Society, a membership affiliate group at the Indianapolis Museum of Art that works to promote a greater awareness of the central role that design plays in our daily lives. DAS offers an annual series of programs featuring films and lectures from international, national, and regional design experts, as well as private, DAS-members-only special events.
