Simple Gifts

Presented by Full Circle Nine Gallery at Full Circle Nine Gallery

Artwork will either show a minimalist take on the artists’ current styles, or relate to the song “Simple Gifts.” All pieces will be priced $50 and under to help present art as a great choice for holiday gift-giving.

“People love to support local art,” said Joy Hernandez, president of FC9. “But they also worry about giving art as gifts.  It can be such an expensive investment and, sometimes, you have to guess the recipient’s tastes. ‘Simple Gifts’ will provide that opportunity to give the gift of art without feeling overwhelmed, by either the price or subject matter. We want art gift giving to be fun!”

“Who does not find the simplest gifts the most meaningful?” asked assemblage artist Robin Toulouse. “When all the wrappings have been thrown away, the food eaten, some toys broken, what we have left are those gifts that don’t have a lot of bells and whistles, but are there to remind us of the giver, and memories of our times together.”

“Simple Gifts” will be open throughout the month until December 17th, while many of the artists will have preview pieces available during Small Business Saturday on November 25th. Full Circle Nine Gallery is open beyond First Fridays, with artists staffing each Saturday and Sunday, 12-4p. The gallery will be closed for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The Circle City Industrial Complex offers free parking, and several artists and artisans will have work available throughout the building, each offering up the potential perfect gift for the holiday season.

“Minimalism as a practice is the deconstruction of art to its framework—it’s the practice of saying a variety of things with the fewest additions—in that that way, it’s exceptionally complex,” said FC9 vice president Andrew Koeling. “Art as a gift is personal. It’s something real and tangible that meant something to whomever purchased it, and is like a shared secret between the new owner, the gift giver, and the artist.
