Beginning Fiction Writing: How to Get Started

In this session, you will be introduced to the basics and first steps to writing fiction, whether it be a short story or a novel. You will learn the definitions of writing devices such as point of view, voice, characterization, setting, conflict/tension, imagery, narrative arcs, and etc. Whether you’ve already started a story, have one brewing in your mind, or simply want to start writing fiction, this class will help you and give you some tools and ideas to get started. At the end of this class, you should walk away with a good understanding of the writing devices of fiction, as well as a character sketch, a scene or two, and a start to your piece.
