FREE admission day: Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Conner Prairie

FREE admission day: Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Conner Prairie

Presented by Conner Prairie Interactive History Park at Conner Prairie

Performances throughout the day will share the lives of some influential African-American Hoosiers, including pioneering aviator Willa Brown, journalist and activist Lillian Fox and teacher Martin Jenkins.

At 11 a.m., 2 and 3 p.m., student trainers from the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, one of the most important organizations of the civil rights movement, will introduce audiences to their methods for practicing non-violent protest.

At noon and 2 p.m., young artists with Asante Children’s Theatre will share songs of freedom and hope. The theater’s Prepsters will perform a “choreo-poem” version of Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise.”

Guests can share their dreams for the future as King did by writing their thoughts and posting them on a Tree of Dreams. A gallery of images of past and present non-violent protests will be on display throughout the day.

For a complete list of activities, visit connerprairie.org. While Conner Prairie’s outdoor grounds remain closed for the season, indoor exhibits Create.Connect and Discovery Station and Craft Corner will be open throughout the day, as will the Conner Prairie Store.
