Indiana Interchurch Gallery presents “Kristy Quinn’s Wit & Wisdom” (Jan 12 – Feb 23, 2018). The Indiana artist deploys whimsy and wonder to create clay and plaster works that reflect her spiritual and artistic interests. Opening Jan 12, 6pm!
Artist Statement:
Flash. Bang. Whirl. Like the cosmos and planets, motion, color, and texture permeate my art. The rhythm of creation and expectation of journey is found in each clay or plaster piece, enhanced with deeply pigmented acrylic paint that is layered and stripped away.
Self-directed and practicing since 2008, my work reflects an evolution of style and experimentation. I was spiritually and artistically inspired after a journey to Ghost Ranch in Abiquiu, New Mexico. A whisper of O’Keefe. The earth’s core, crust, and cosmos emerged as primary themes that continue to inform my work. Nature’s art, red rock shaped by tectonic plates. Sculpt. The infinity of space invited exploration and discovery. Fly. All things between where we live, laugh, love, and grieve. Engage.
My artistic comfort zone has been stretched and challenged as I’ve transitioned to 3D and mixed media. The traditions of my original style add stability to my current work, but the stories have transformed. Personalities have developed. Steampunk Dive, a clay sculpture with mixed media design, reflects strength, whimsy, and wonder. She shouts attitude and energy. Veiled airs of mystery abound, with a bit of cynicism and haughtiness added to provoke thought and smiles.
Invitational art created to lead you on a personal journey of surprise and adventure. Feast.
“Free Admission” and the event is free and open to the public.
