The Burden: African Americans and the Enduring Impact of Slavery

The Burden: African Americans and the Enduring Impact of Slavery

Presented by The Indianapolis Public Library at Central Library

Adults are invited for a discussion of the book, “The Burden: African Americans and the Enduring Impact of Slavery,” a powerful collection of essays that offer a chorus of evidence that the burden is real. A panel of contributors to the book will share their thoughts on the issue and discuss how our nation can move forward. Panelists will include award-winning Detroit newspaper columnist Rochelle Riley, the book’s editor; A’Lelia Bundles, author of the book, “All About Madame C.J. Walker;” and Tamara Winfrey-Harris, social commentator and author of the award-winning book, “The Sisters Are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative of Black Women in America.” The discussion program, as well as an authors’ reception and book signing, will be held in the Center for Black Literature & Culture at Central Library.
