Coloring Historic Indiana II: Recent Paintings by Brock Cagann

Presented by Indiana Landmarks at Indiana Landmarks Center

Brock Caganns First Friday show in February at Indiana Landmarks Center features paintings inspired by historic black-and-white photos of early twentieth-century Indiana buildings and streetscapes. He transforms these static views into colorful, layered paintings that bring the scenes to life in a vivid way.

Cagann studied architecture at Arizona State before graduating as a painter from IU’s Herron School of Art, and his art combines both passions. While vintage photographs provide the starting point, the paintings focus on color combinations, shape and form in an almost abstract way.

Complimentary snacks and beverages will be available during the First Friday opening, 6-9 p.m., on February 2, when you can also tour Indiana Landmarks Center at 1201 Central Avenue in Indianapolis. Built as a Methodist church in the nineteenth century, the restored and adapted structure holds theaters and a reception hall in addition to the gallery and Indiana Landmarks’ headquarters.
