Curator's Choice Series: Grafton Tyler Brown and Edmonia Lewis

at Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art

Grafton Tyler Brown and Edmonia Lewis are among a small number of African-American artists we associate with the West and with imagery of Native Americans. Join James Nottage, V.P. and chief curatorial officer and Gund curator of Western art, on the first Friday of February for a 20-minute presentation focusing on a Yellowstone painting by Brown in 1891 that was recently acquired by the museum. He will also discuss Edmonia Lewis, an important sculptor who lived much of her life in Italy but created significant works depicting Native Americans.
