Rebirth by Corey Crum

Rebirth by Corey Crum

Presented by Marian University at Marian University Art Gallery

Rebirth, featuring artwork created by Corey Crum, will be on display in the Marian University Art Gallery located in the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences from February 26, – March 29, 2018.  A reception of the exhibit and artist talk will be held March 15, from 4-6 p.m. The exhibit and reception are generously funded by the Talbot Street Art Fair and are free and open to the public.

Crum’s current body of work is about place.  His paintings and drawings teeter between abstraction, observation, and exaggeration.  At times, dripping strokes of paint can be found next to a rendered form; Crum admires both the observed and the abstracted moments that can often live in harmony.  He creates exteriors that identify as invented realities.  Within these invented realities is a new fantastical world that is set in the fictitious future due to the expiration of our planet.  After the rot, decay, and deconstruction, the rebirth of our new Earth occurs.  The new world is composed of elements from our “current” Earth and joined with elements of the new, which now become natural hybrids.

Mr. Crum has been a part of various solo and group exhibitions including “Tapped One2: The Manifest Prize” and an upcoming solo show “Deconstruction/Reconstruction” at the Tippecanoe Art Federation in Lafayette, Indiana. Throughout his artistic career Crum has received various awards including the Past Presidents’ award for the 73rd South Shore Arts Salon Show, and Second Place for the Dick Blick Juried art show at the Jack Olson Gallery in Dekalb, Illinois.  Corey graduated with a BFA in Ceramics and Painting from Indiana State University.  He then went on to pursue an MFA in Painting from Northern Illinois University.  From 2012-2017 Crum was Assistant Professor of Art at St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana.  In 2016 Crum served as the Art Department Chair at St. Joseph’s College.  Presently, Crum is a professional artist and educator living and working in Zionsville Indiana.
