Capturing Light-The Art of Still Life with Pam Newell

Presented by SullivanMunce Cultural Center at Sullivan Munce Cultural Center

Learn to fill all your work with light and energy and hone your skills, by painting a still life. Set-up and paint a well-constructed composition featuring favorite objects you have brought. Some supporting objects will be provided. You will paint with emotion when you love your subject! Bring a favorite vase, a flow blue pitcher, cut melon, onions, fruit, pastries, bird’s nest, copper vessel, favorite fresh flowers or foliage – whatever makes you want to paint! Lights, stands, and backdrop stations will be provided.

We will discuss the principals of fine art as inspired by the Masters; and have lively discussions about values, hard and soft edges, transparent vs. opaque color, focal point, brushwork, palette knife and more. There will be an instructor demo and lots of individual attention. This workshop is open to all skill levels and styles; some drawing or painting experience is recommended. The main emphasis is on oil or pastel painting; however, all media are welcome. Students provide all workshop materials. PLEASE BRING A PORTABLE OR TABLETOP EASEL. Materials list under workshops.
