Get an inside look at Franklin’s historic 1936 post office before it reopens to the public as a restaurant.
A new restaurant will open soon in the historic Franklin post office, and Indiana Landmarks invites you for an inside look on June 9, 3-5 p.m. when owners Lesa and John Talley will announce the eatery’s name. Many will be familiar with the 1936 Colonial Revival-style building at 55 West Madison Street in its last incarnation as City Hall.
You’ll see the ornamental materials and finishes that remain from the P.O. days—original doors, windows, and skylights, tile and hardwood floors, the carved limestone eagle over the entrance—revived to create a distinctive place to dine.
Stick around the neighborhood for dinner and the 7 p.m. movie “Airplane!” at the historic Artcraft Theatre, owned by Indiana Landmarks’ affiliate Franklin Heritage, Inc. If you’re an Indiana Landmarks member making a reservation or a non-member buying a ticket to the Landmark Look, you’ll receive restaurant suggestions, too.
