July First Friday with the CCIC Artists

July First Friday with the CCIC Artists

Presented by Circle City Industrial Complex Artists at Circle City Industrial Complex

Admission and parking are free, general programming starts at 6pm, although times may vary in individual spaces. With over 60 artists and art businesses, the Circle City Industrial Complex has become a destination for art appreciators and supporters of local work. Just northeast of the Mass Ave Art and Theatre Cultural District, at 1125 Brookside Ave., the CCIC Artists First Friday programming is a must-see stop, while events and viewable hours continue throughout the month.

Brookside Avenue has been closed due to road construction, starting just after the Centerpoint Brewing parking lot, on the south end of the CCIC. To reach the CCIC’s large free parking lot, visitors should continue east on 10th Street, past the Dorman Street stoplight. They should then turn left at Arsenal Avenue, just across from IPS Brookside School 54. Banners have been tied to the fencing around the parking lot, and visitors should enter by taking a left (west) off of Arsenal onto 12th Street. All building entrances are accessible as usual, but visitors should take care crossing the street, as its condition changes daily. The construction is said to be expected through July.

The Main Entrance of the building (identified by its black marble façade) provides easy access to both the South Studios and the North Studios (with a wheelchair accessible ramp and elevator). Maps of the building are also available in several locations to help visitors find all that the building has to offer.

Events:

Schwitzer Gallery
Jamie Willis presents “The 45 Project,” a collection of large paintings, each depicting the reactions of real people to Donald Trump, both positive and negative. “I’m not neutral on this topic. I have a strong point of view,” said Willis. “But for the sake of this project, I’ve made a point of including the emotional reactions of people who support the president as well. My goal is to promote understanding. As dismaying as I find the current political administration, I’m more dismayed at how divided we are as Americans. We don’t just disagree—in many cases, we view people on the opposite side of the political spectrum as our enemies. I want to open a dialogue.” The Schwitzer Gallery is on the second floor of the North Studios.

Duwan Watson will have a sound booth set up, as part of an ongoing project gathering short interviews for his weekly radio segment, “The Gauge” on 99.1 WQRT FM. “The Gauge” focuses on emotional awareness, and Watson will be gathering reactions to “The 45 Project,” as well as other art throughout the building.

About the Circle City Industrial Complex Artists

The Circle City Industrial Complex (CCIC) is a nearly half-million square foot industrial building, located at 1125 Brookside Ave., and was formerly home to the Schwitzer automotive company. Its industrial appeal remains and artists and artisans have made the space their home, carving cozy studio, work, and show spaces from the concrete and steel structure, and the CCIC Artists have grown in number to over 50 galleries, individual artists and artisans. The main artist entries are the North Studios entrance and the South Studios entrance, each marked with signage along Brookside Avenue. The CCIC provides free parking in a large lot, and is accessible by the Pogue’s Run Trail, connecting to the Monon Trail and the downtown Cultural Trail system. The complex also offers other art-supporting destinations such as the Centerpoint Brewery, Lick Ice Cream, and Ruckus Makerspace.
